Thought provoking …. please read

“And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him.  For from within, out of the heart of man, comes evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.  All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”  Mark 7:20

50ShadesofGreyCoverArtI appeal to you brothers and sisters in Christ, do not watch the movie Fifty Shades of Grey. If you do not know anything about the book and movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, you may count yourself blessed.  The book, has sold more than 100 million copies and the movie adaptation will be released on Valentine’s Day.  I have not read the book and I have no plans to watch the movie.  My appeal to stay away from this latest Hollywood offering is based on the same rationale as staying away from pornography. There are many good…

QUOTE (C.H. Spurgeon) – Jan 6

Português: fotografia de Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“You know more about your magazines and novels than what God has written; many of you will read a novel from the beginning to the end, and what have you got? A mouthful of foam when you are done. But you cannot read the Bible; that solid, lasting, substantial, and satisfying food goes uneaten, locked up in the cupboard of neglect; while anything that a man writes, a best seller of the day, is greedily devoured.”
~ C.H. Spurgeon

“The Bible must be your chart, and you must exercise great watchfulness that your way may be according to its directions. You must take heed to your daily life, as well as study your Bible, and you must study your Bible that you may take heed to your daily life. With the greatest care a man will go astray if his map misleads him; but with the most accurate map he will still…

A Letter To My Pastor

Dear Pastor

I wanted to say thank you for your message this morning (I didn’t get a chance after the service) and encourage you to keep preaching more of the same. It was, I believe, a word in season to all within the Church of Christ, and we need to hear more of it.

Within your message you touched on subjects which many Christians in this day and age do not want to hear because in impinges on their “personal freedom” and on what they want to do. As you so rightly put it we do not have any sort of freedom outside of that which we find in Christ. We are called to be different and to live by a higher standard because we have been bought by God through the death of Christ and adopted into his family.

The call to Flee from sexual immorality amongst other things (we are also called to flee from youthful lusts/desires in 2 Timothy 2v22) is particularly relevant in this day and age due to the sexualisation of absolutely everything round about us. We as Christians can be so easily seduced if we are not on our guard to these things! You also touched on something else which is equally as important, in the words of the KJV “….abstain from all appearance of evil”. Over the years I have heard too many Christians saying “it’s between me and God what I do”, or “I am not sinning so what is the problem”. Paul says “… all things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial….” which we so often forget (or ignore!!). We have a responsibility to be an example, not just to the unbeliever but to our weaker brother or sister, and if our “lawful” action leads them into sin then we will be held responsible for that.

Anyway as I started, thank you for bringing the Word of God to the Church this morning and I pray that it will take root and set us free to be who we are meant to be in Christ.

Tear Fund Tour of Scotland 2015

Being a keen recreational cyclist and wanting to do something more that just cycle for fun, I have signed up for the 2015 Tear Fund Tour of Scotland to raise money for Tearfunds Children at Risk project. This is a hilly 500 mile / 7 day cycle ride in June 2015, starting in Inverness, up to Ullapool and then working down the west coast to Glasgow. The full route can be found here.

The reason for this is that over 8.4 million children are in slavery and we must do everything in our power to stop this horror. Which is why Tearfund want to protect 50,000 children vulnerable to trafficking, disease and disaster.
Trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the world, ravaging the lives of 1.2 million children across the world every year. Tearfund’s staff and partners are doing all they can to protect children like Nang from trafficking.

I have pledged to raise a minimum of £500 for this cause, please consider sponsoring me using my JustGiving page.

Thanks for your support
