Today we visited the National Memorial Arboretum, a place which I never knew existed before today. The arboretum is deliberately located in Central England in Staffordshire. This is a National Memorial to all who have made the ulitmate sacrifice and fallen in combat while serving in the Armed Forces of this country. The central monument has the names of all those who have fallen since the end of World War 2 and each year the names of those who fell the previous year are added to the roll of honour. There is no rank as, in the words of the guide, “……… in death all are equal.” There is a quietness and reverance about the place which re-inforces the imapct of the sacrifice made.
